Behind The Cards…
Mythic Guardians Trading Card Game was designed and created as a solo project. Starting the initial concept for the game on the 23rd of December, 2024.
The idea of making a trading card game was born from a love of playing so many card games growing up! From Yu-Gi-Oh to Pokémon to Digimon, all these games had fantastical creatures and ways to play that have stuck with me long into my adulthood. I’m now 26 and want to relive those memories through my own card game, Mythic Guardians.
The game has grown a substantial audience online on YouTube, which is the place where the community around the game can catch up on the latest updates and give valuable feedback for the game. When creating the game back in December of 2024, I never intended to make a YouTube channel around it. I spent months making the game behind the scenes, never sharing the experience with anyone apart from friends and family. As I grew more attached to the game and was desiring a bigger audience to share it with, I finally made the jump to YouTube on July 14th 2025.
My name is Sam Grant, UK-based and born on the 24th of August 1999. I’m a massive nerd, always have been and always will be. I’m a freelance graphic designer and editor, and studied at Alton College in the UK.
As I explained above, my goal of creating a trading card game was never to make the next competitive TCG or to become the best-selling game out there. I just wanted to make a game where I could play with my friends and family like the old days. Since having this community around the game, my vision has slightly changed, and my outlook for the game has grown.
As someone who wasn’t overly popular in school, I found a lot of my joy in just escaping to other worlds, maybe through music, gaming, or, you guessed it, TCGs. I had such a fondness for these make-believe worlds, and yet it took me 26 years to create my own. My goal for the game is just to see people having fun collecting and battling with these cards.
As the game grows, I want to make sure the roots stay the same. I’m someone who takes a lot of pride in my work and would never release something that I myself wouldn’t have any interest in. I’m so excited for the future of Mythic Guardians. I hope you are too.
Something people might not know about me is that I’m also a musician! I’ve been making music with my producer for over 7 years! And I upload it to Spotify and all other streaming services! My music artist name is ‘Azurtone’. I felt it was important to keep my name out of it and have a show name. In an already flooded industry, you wanna stand out, and there’s already so many ‘Sam’s’ in music as is! Besides music, I’m also a freelance photographer and videographer. It’s nothing major, but it’s another outlet for my passion, which has always been creating! I do work part-time in an official capacity at my day job, but I’m hoping to one day have a creative endeavour that takes off, meaning I can pursue it full-time!
I think it’s important to always focus on your passion projects as just that, passion-driven goals that bring you fulfilment of some kind. It’s always good to dream big and want to do that for a living, but I truely believe if you’re doing something just for money, it will lose that spark that made you want to do it in the first place. This trading card game, my music, my camera work or even my time spent editing photos or videos, has never been about money; it's something I enjoy doing over anything else, and my goal for this game was to make something I can truly be proud of and expand upon so I can continue to make something I love!
